Mangos, blueberries, pears, eggs, peanuts (which reaaaaally pisses me off), a host of other fruit and maybe oatmeal. Who the frack is allergic to oatmeal????

I am back on what Bill calls "The Chicken Diet" in where I eat copious amounts of chicken, veggies, fish and almost no grains (low carb tortilla here and there and really, there is just something really wrong with a low carb tortilla) and i stand in front of the fridge thinking what the hell do I eat since everything is poison. According to my doctor, this is a common thing during the Big Change. I salute you peri-menopause, you ruthless bitch.

Oh, and hello to 6 weeks of bleeding (try surfing with the heaviest period since the rib was torn from Adams chest....it's like asking for a shark attack), wacked out blood sugars again and polycystic ovaries....all of which I have never had before ThE ChaNGe. Apparently I was not overtained when I got sick 3 years ago, but my hormones were out of whack and that is what caused me missing 3 YEARS of triathlon. We did Slick Rock on our honeymoon and after doing the practice loop thought "that wasn't too bad" and went on to do the whole loop. Holy Hell was it a bear. It was hotter than Hades, and we ran out of water in the freaking desert of Utah. We had to climb petrified dunes grabbing onto tree roots and pulling ourselves up while dragging the bike with the other arm. And we were experienced mtb riders! Got back to the car severely dehydrated and damn sick. It is only a 12 mile loop but took us more than 4 hours. It was pure Hell....beautiful but Hell nonetheless. You got 6th in your age group!! and that is pretty cool in an IM sanctioned event girlie. Maybe your expectations were set too high this time, time wise? Shaving 30 minutes is a lot. I know the feeling on the run when you are absolutely done and have very little left, but you finished it and still placed in the top half of your AG. Perspective. Pull back and look at the whole picture. You may be focusing on your goal time too much.

Could have been a nutrition issue. You needed some gels, banana or something easy to digest. Small intake at timed intervals throughout the course. Set your watch and have it beep when you need to eat. Also, gotta eat before a race or you will crash. I used to get up at 4 a.m. and eat (rice with rice milk and a bit of sugar) then a banana before start. Even a piece of toast and peanut butter around 4-5a.m. would have helped. You know the song and dance. I think real food and real nutrition trumps the sports drinks. You have to take in so much of the liquid and eventually it just sits there and pools in your gut. This year has taught me so much about how the body processes sugar and how to eat and keep blood sugar levels at a nice even level during exercise. It is surprising what a small bite here an there will do during exercise.

Also wondering about the remote possibility that you might have overtrained. You have been sick, so that can screw things up. It isn't so much the increase volume as is the increase in power + volume + sick body that will cause issues. One of the first signs of overtraining is a weird increase in performance (superman complex) followed by repeated illness and stagnant times. (This can be spread out over a long period of time) Keep an eye on this as you move forward to November. Have Jamie watch for the signs and talk to you about them. When it is happening to you, you are clueless until it is too late, but others around you can see it and notice stuff. I know I talk about this adnauseum, but you don't ever want to go down that road if you can avoid it. It is THE WORST thing to go through and is never ending in its reaches.

Now, enjoy the 6th place AG, rest and move on to getting your nutrition down and a great race in November.Jodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05790787955193833733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12767946.post-21632093331081318882012-09-22T11:08:55.876-05:002012-09-22T11:08:55.876-05:00Looks good!! Just be sure and put lots of lube under the arms (all the way towards front) and a bit at neckline the first few races. Wear it around the house today etc so you can find any hot spots that might bug you maƱana and lube 'em after swim transition. I have an Orca tri suit you can use for IM if we can find a way to get it down there. You wear a sports bra with it, and it has a zip front so you can peel it down for ventilation if you need to during the run.

And......pain is weakness leaving the body. ;*) Jodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05790787955193833733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12767946.post-38857136430346732162012-09-06T15:42:06.212-05:002012-09-06T15:42:06.212-05:00Glad you are feeling better and nice deal on the s...Glad you are feeling better and nice deal on the shorts. Temps today are around 92 (a "cool front" came through), and with the humidity making the heat index a cool 102....its been around 109 or higher. Runs are sufferfests and I can't seem to go over 5 miles with it so oppressive. Our humidity levels are in the 80-90 range until around 1 pm when Satan breathes on us and burns it off to a lovely 75%. I have no clue which one I have as all the labels are rubbed off, but I can stay aero in it for 6 hours with just a break here and there. I just stated riding again and didn't even have the usual re-entry soreness. I think it is an older version of this one: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1104578_-1___400196

Any way we could order and try to ship it down to you? Maybe send it to me and I will rebox and ship it down? Its cheap, so maybe worth a shot?

Postion wise, make sure your shoulders are over your elbows, and seat should be pretty far forward to allow your weight at the front stem.....you will feel the difference in the power you can put out.

Or better yet fly up to Tx and I will take you to San Antonio to hook you up with my tri shop for a tri-bike you can fly home with. It will add around 1mph or more to your speed.
